The Horoscope

From the Greek: hora = hour and skopos = watcher. Picture if you will an astrologer/priest on a ziggurat somewhere in the Middle East marking on tablets the shifting of the night sky as it rolls across the heavens. There are moving stars walking across the firmament that seem to show up at specific correlating moments to events transpiring on earth. He was watching as the hours came by.

Traditionally this term was applied only to the ascendant, or the easternmost part of the chart. This is the eastern horizon at the moment the chart is constructed and the zodiacal sign there. Since the earth rotates completely around each day this eastern point (ascendant or rising sign) changes at a rate of about 1° every 4 minutes, or 2 hours per astrological sign passing over this point. One thing should be relevant and that is that constant movement is the nature of the game.

A Horoscope constructed for a particular time and place on the planet is like a holographic image that acts like a template we incarnate into to begin the ball rolling, Any moment and any place exists as an initiation point for the unfolding of that moment’s life journey. No two human beings begin at these exact same coordinates.

So, as we wander into our life we encounter a variety of circumstances providing opportunity to test this being we arrived to develop. One should keep in mind that we are born in response to a spiritual need on the planet. Yes, we have a mission to accomplish, but we are not doing this alone. There will be external Guides that show up for seasons and reasons as well as internal ones we arrive with or grow into. Astrology can be utilized, if appropriately understood, to assist us in discovering when, why and how these assistants make appearances along our path.

The 12 Houses - are like different realms of experience or rooms in a mansion.

Aspects - These are the lines connecting the planets in the center. They represent the potential types of conversation the planets might engage in with one another as part of the picture that is unfolding.
